الميلاد : 20 مارس 1735 كاترينبرغ ، أبرشية لاستاد – السويد
الوفاة : 8 يوليو 1784 ( 49 سنة ) ميديفي – السويد
تعلم برجمان على يدي لينايوس Linnaeus عالم النبات السويدي 1707 – 1778 في ابسالا ثم عمل أستاذا ً للفيزياء فيها.
قام برجمان بإجراء دراسات مستفيضة على غاز ثاني أكسيد الكربون ،
وأطلق عليه اسم الحامض الهوائي (aerial acid)
ونجح في تحضير مياه معدنية صناعية.
كما يعود إليه الفضل أيضاً في اكتشاف غاز كبريتيد الهيدروجين في الينابيع المعدنية ،
كان بيرغمان يؤمن بمادية النار (Phlogiston) تلك الفكرة التي أبطلها لافوازييه Lavoisier
العالم والكيميائي الفرنسي الشهير ( 1743-1794 ).
